ICOACHGIRLS x FIBA: Engaging girls across Europe
Posted on 30th January 2025
ICOACHGIRLS Partner FIBA have been actively engaging girls in the ICG programme since 2024 in Spain, Cech Republic, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Belgium and Italy.
In The Czech Republic, Basketball club Brandýs nad Labem said:
“It is pleasure for us to be part of the project. It was very helpful. We had recruited new girls and thanks to that, we now have girls-only groups for practice. We managed to involve new young coaches, especially among the players of our club, they are now active involve in our club and they are very helpful for us, now we have more trainings unites, girls can be split by their age, we can have more coaches on practices and it is more effective for us. Girls now have nice relationships between them and they works as a great team. We have feedback from parents, that girls likes to go to practice and parents thing that their daughters have improved in basketball skills. In our practice we applicate ICG philosophy, which we learned during the online sessions, all the exercises we do fun way. We have involved in the project 38 girls in age 5-11 yo and 10 coaches”
Another notable example comes from the ICOACHGIRLS Centre in Madrid, Spain.
The coordinator designed an engaging initiative involving a large foam prop shaped like a backpack. After each practice session, girls were encouraged to write anonymous feedback on post-it notes, highlighting what they liked and didn’t like about the session, and pin these notes onto the foam backpack. The input was then collected and stored in a physical backpack, to be opened and reviewed at the end of the year, fostering reflection and growth.
Additionally, the team gathered parents' email addresses, and, over the weekends, the coaches would share the focus points or topics for upcoming practices. This enabled parents to engage their daughters in casual conversations at home about the practices without the girls knowing the parents were informed in advance 😉. This initiative significantly encouraged open, friendly discussions at home about values and topics addressed during training sessions.

We would like to thank all ICOACHGIRLS partners for activating girls across Europe.
