How did you into coaching children and young people

I got into coaching children and young people because I’ve always had a passion for football and a strong interest in working with kids. I started helping out with younger age groups when I used to play with Birkirkara about 23years ago and quickly realised how rewarding it is to see children grow in confidence, develop new skills, and enjoy being part of a team. Coaching allows me to share my love for the sport while helping young players learn, have fun, and build positive habits on and off the pitch.

Why are you Passionate About Putting Kids First in Sport?

I’m passionate about putting kids first in sport because I believe that sport should be a positive and enjoyable experience for every child. It’s not just about winning — it’s about learning teamwork, building confidence, staying active, and developing life skills. When kids feel supported, safe, and encouraged, they’re more likely to stay involved, grow as individuals, and enjoy the game. My goal as a coach is to create an environment where every child feels valued, has fun, and wants to keep coming back

Isabelle’s  Top Tips for Youth Sport Coaches:

  • Always keep it fun and engaging, focus on their development rather than just winning,

  • Be patient and encouraging.

  • Every child learns at their own pace, so it’s important to create a positive environment where they feel safe and supported.

  • Clear communication, kindness, and being a good role model go a long way in helping young players grow in both skill and confidence.
