About

How did I get into coaching?

I have been coaching young people since a young age, mainly cricket and AFL (Australian Rules Football). I got into coaching in schools from a business I started in Newcastle (Australia), and I provided in-school and out of school sports programs. During this process, my company covered over 15 different sports with designated sports coaches on board. We had an opportunity to work with the Special Olympics and deliver their programs which was a great opportunity for us and something I always wanted to do.

Why am I passionate about coaching?

I am passionate my role as a coach purely do to the fact that children and young people really need physical activity, not only for mental but physical well being. Living a healthy lifestyle is crucial and seeing young people progress is truly rewarding. Alot of children we work with do not have access to sports or physical activity/programs outside of school so being able to deliver programs to these children and seeing them have fun and succeed gives myself great joy.

Aaron's Top Tips for Youth Sport Coaches:

  • My advice to other people working with children/young people would be trust the process and stay consistent.

  • We don't coach professional athletes and we often are working with children who are new to sport/physical activity.

  • Make it fun make it enjoyable and let them know they are doing a great job week in week out.

  • If something isn't working then don't be afraid to change it up.
